Ou Est Le Swimming Pool? St Pancras.
03/9/09
As an agency, our imperative is all about engagement and audiences – so creating a fuss in the real world always floats our collective boat.
When the opportunity to launch new music talent knocked on our door - we answered it with gusto.
Creating a socially driven, campaign website was just half of the fun...
Stiff Records also commissioned us to generate a buzz ‘in the real world’ around Ou Est le Swimming Pool’s latest single - and their rider was a pretty tough call:
- Real fans
- Live performance
- An element of surprise
- Lots of dancing
Never a team to shy away from a challenge – we decided to take over St Pancras Station in London and treat fans and passing commuters to a live performance from the band (complete with dancing boys in trunks and flippers – you see what we did there?).

You can see more pictures from the day via The Dubsters Flickr account.
The planning of such an event is indeed a huge deal (a blog post in itself) but it was great to work with such a young band who were positively bubbling with enthusiasm as well as patience and able to turn on their raw talent at the drop of a flipper.
During the sound check, crowds started to gather and the questions began:
“Who are they?”, “What’s the song called?”, “Can I film this for my son?”, Will you take my picture next to the band?”, “What kind of music would you describe this as?”, “ Are they French?”, “Are they in the charts?”, “Who are you?”,” Are they famous?”, “Is this a flash-mob?”, “Will my children know of them?” – we couldn’t possibly say madam.
Further to staging the event we also filmed the entire day and cut together a polished music video for the record company to promote online:
Overall – audiences were engaged both off and online and a purposeful legacy produced, in the form of the above video.
A lot of hard work but well worth the effort.
